Waste Plastic Bags Turn into 3D-Printed Urban Furniture

The Netherlands studio for research and design “The new raw” demonstrated a unique project called “Print your city!”, Within which 3D printers were used to convert plastic waste into city furniture for Amsterdam.

The first realized object of the program “Print your city!” Was a street bench, which took the form of a kind of double-sided rocking chair.

In the production process, recycled plastic waste is used: plastic bags, bottles and other environmentally polluting plastic products. Weight 50 kilograms, length and width 150 to 80 centimeters, the bench is 100% suitable for recycling.

The research project “Print your city!” Is also a call to action that could unite citizens with the goal of utilizing plastic waste to turn them into raw materials for urban locations. The project was initiated by the studio “The new raw” and launched in 2016 in cooperation with the Amsterdam Institute of AMS, Delft University of Technology and the AEB waste management company.
