Rare photos of Marilyn Monroe hiking in the woods. In 1950, photographer Ed Clark of LIFE received a phone call from a friend of 20th Century Fox talking about a newbie the studio had hired. It was Marilyn Monroe , who was still unknown in the showbiz world .
Marilyn joined Clark for a photo shoot in the Griffith Park Forest in Los Angeles.
“She was still unknown, so I was able to spend a lot of time photographing her … I sent several rolls of film to LIFE in New York, but they questioned ‘What the hell is Marilyn Monroe?'” Said the photographer.
The young actress had signed with Fox in August of 1946, but was left behind after the end of the second six-month contract. She spent the next years perfecting her craft in acting classes, working as a model and making friends with executives.
