With only 4 thousand square meters with sparse vegetation and full of huts, it is believed that the small Migingo Island is home to about 131 people in Kenya and Uganda. However, its inhabitants seem not to care the size, since in this small field equivalent to half a football field in Lake Victoria, there are bars, beauty salons, pharmacies, hotels and numerous brothels.

The island has been in dispute for many years, finding the border between Kenya and Uganda The reason? Many fish! The rich fresh waters are a paradise for anglers who come here in search of opportunities .
Approximately 30 million Africans depend on fish for their survival, but not for long, since the number has been reduced by almost 70% , causing serious concern among environmentalists who use this as an example of the consequences not seriously take care of the environment. But this seems not interest the people who are focused on the US $ 100 can cost each fish.

The lack of agreement between the two countries to decide who owned the island, increased tensions between fishermen, prostitutes, police and families who were living together at 25 kilometers west of the Kenyan coast. However, Migingo belongs to Kenya to be within the marked as such in official documents dating from 1926 and the country’s international border .
The May 11, 2009 Ugandan President Yoweri Musevi confessed that the island was part of Kenya, but accused the settlers of this country practicing illegal fishing in the waters of Uganda which is 213 meters. Against this, the scientists said in the swampy lake is in Kenya where they grow fish , hence not even found in its waters, does belong to them and have the right to catch them.
Finally, they reached an agreement where the Ugandan security personnel can cross the Kenyan beaches in search of food and medical supplies. They also agreed to have a Control Unit Beach will feature officials from both countries .
The most curious of all is that only 200 meters east of the island is Usingo, which is larger and is virtually uninhabited.
