The freelance photographer Christian Carollo has spent the past three years to locate and travel to places that his grandparents previously visited. It all began by chance when he was looking through a box that his grandfather left behind.

There, he discovered a pile of photographs that were taken in Winchester Bay , Oregon in 1987. This city was Christian himself visit the following week , and then the idea was born. With the help of his grandfather’s photographs and her grandmother detailed travel journals , he has since visited and photographed sites in nearly all 50 states or America and The Project Past & Present was born. The project has interested tens of thousands of people and can be seen in its entirety here.
