In the XV century masters of the town were the Moors until they were expelled Christians. “Setenil” means “Seven times nothing” – the locals kept the siege and not let strangers on the 15th day of their won. Thanks to the excellent quality of the wine that is produced here, in the name of the city appeared addition – “de las Bodegas,” which means Spanish “wine.”Here grow olives and almonds, produced meat products, bake tasty cookies. Because of the rocks, the locals do not know hot days and cold winds.

Historical records indicate that Setenil de las Bodegas – an ancient settlement. Its inhabitants became famous for military bravery, they are staunchly protected the city from the numerous attacks of the Roman soldiers. Scientists believe that the etymology of the name “Setenil” associated with military events: the word comes from «septem nihil», which literally means “seven times without result.”

It was such a number of unsuccessful attacks of the Romans, in which the inhabitants of the city managed to survive. Rock protect local residents in ancient times, and today protects: from chilling winds in winter, and in summer – from the scorching heat. On the streets of Setenil de las Bodegas is always a comfortable temperature.
